24-hour quiet hours begin at 11 p.m. and continue through closing.

Reading Day

Retail Locations - Caffeinator closes at 6 p.m. | 57 North, TerraByte, InfiniTEA and Urbana South Market close at 7 p.m.

SDRP closes at 7 p.m.

Laundry rooms and computer labs close at noon.
University Housing residence halls close at 3 p.m., except for residents who have been approved for Extended Stay.
May 12
Residents approved for Extended Stay must check out no later than 7 p.m. Checking Out The University Housing Contract ends 24 hours after your last final examination. Please make plans to move within this 24-hour time frame.
Check-Out Process
The University Housing Contract ends 24 hours after your last final examination. Please make plans to move within this 24-hour time frame.
You may check out at any time (24 hours a day) until 3 p.m. on May 11. Hand sanitizer, cleaning supplies, and moving carts will be available, but may be limited. You are encouraged to also bring your own.
Before you check out
- Remove personal items, including carpets/rugs.
- Empty all dressers/desk drawers.
- Ensure university-provided room furniture is present.
- Clean and return rented Combo Appliance.
- Close and lock windows, open window coverings.
- Wipe down surfaces (doors, walls, furniture, etc.).
- Remove tape/putty/marks from doors, walls and furniture.
- Sweep/vacuum floor.
- Remove trash and empty trash can.
- Turn off lights.
- Lock room/suite door.
- Return borrowed items (library books, moving carts, etc.).
- Check your mail.
- Log into MyHousing to provide a mail forwarding address. University Housing will not hold resident mail over the summer, but first-class mail will be forwarded if you provide a mail forwarding address. All packages will be returned to the sender.
To Check Out
- Visit your area/front desk.
- Fill out an “Express Check-Out Key Packet."
- Place key(s) in packet.
- Place packet in slot labeled "Deposit Key Packet Here."
Failure to return key(s) will result in a $50 per key fee.
Late Checkout
If you check out after 3 p.m. on May 11, you are subject to a $25 per hour improper checkout fee. Slow elevators, traffic and cart shortages are not valid reasons to waive this charge.
Combo Appliance Return
If you rented a Combo Appliance (fridge/microwave), please clean and then return May 4 or 5 to avoid a $50 late return fee. Visit here for additional details or questions regarding your fridge rental. MyCollegeFridge representatives at all return locations will have a limited supply of dollies with them that residents may check out to use for returning their appliances.

- Scott & Snyder: 1:30 - 3 p.m.
- Allen Hall Site 9 a.m. - noon located in the circle drive in front.

Sunday, May 5
- FAR Site 12:30 - 6:30 p.m. located on the west side of FAR.
- PAR: 12:30 - 3 :30 p.m.
- FAR: 3:30 - 6:30 p.m.
- ISR Site 12:30 - 3:30 p.m. located in the parking lot on the side.
Summer Storage
Make Move-Out easier and let Storage Squad do the heavy lifting. Students are encouraged to store and/or ship their items with Storage Squad over the summer or while studying abroad.
Extended Stay Requests
If you need to check out after 3 p.m. on May 11, you must submit an Extended Stay Request by May 2 at 5 p.m., and receive prior written permission from your resident director. Your resident director will notify you of your Extended Stay approval or denial via email.
Additional Information
Room Inspection and Damages
When you check out, your room should be in the condition it was at Move-In. University Housing staff will inspect your room within a week after hall closing. You will be billed for any discrepancies of the condition of your room at the time of inspection as compared to its initial condition.
Potential Damage Billing
Below are some of the damages residents are most commonly billed:
- Rooms left extremely dirty.
- Personal items left in the room.
- Missing or damaged room furniture. If something is damaged, submit a Maintenance Request. If you are responsible for the damage, you may be charged.
- Decals/stickers/tape/putty/marks left on windows, walls, doors and furniture.
- Staples/nails/thumbtacks left in bulletin boards, ceilings and doors.
- Trash left in the room or hallway.
- Broken or missing ceiling or floor tile(s).
- Smoke detector not connected or functioning. If this is the case, submit a Maintenance Request immediately.
If you are billed for damage, you will receive an email by the end of May/early June. Charges will be applied to your student account. You must pay or file an appeal by the deadline on your billing statement.
Borrowed Equipment
Return borrowed equipment to the appropriate location during regular business hours. Hall staff or the area/front desks will not accept computer or library equipment. Any items left in your room will be considered abandoned property (including rented refrigerators), so be sure that your room is left the way you found it when you moved in.
Room Access
We will not provide anyone access to your room unless you are present, including after you have checked out. Property left behind will be deemed abandoned property via our Hall Policies.
Mail Forwarding
University Housing will not hold resident mail over the summer. First class mail will be forwarded if you provide a mail forwarding address. All packages will be returned to the sender. Log into MyHousing to provide a mail forwarding address.
Cars/Bicycles/Mopeds/Motorcycles
Parking lots are rented during the summer. Non-designated cars will be ticketed and towed from these locations. Bikes and their parts may not be stored in or on University Housing property. Bikes left behind, even on bike racks, will be deemed abandoned property via our Hall Policies.
Summer Housing
Air-conditioned summer session housing is available at Daniels Hall for undergraduate and graduate students! To reserve your space, fill out a Summer Housing Contract.

Daniels Hall Closing Information 2024
Moving Out of Daniels Hall
Unless you have a confirmed 12-month contract, which includes Summer 2024, you must vacate your room by noon on Sunday, May 12. Residents with confirmed 12-month contracts that cover Summer 2024 do not need to apply for Summer Housing or vacate their rooms.
- Residents who cannot leave by noon on May 12 must apply online for Summer Housing.
- There is a seven-night minimum stay for Summer Housing.
- Summer Housing charges are billed to university student accounts.
- If you stay after noon on Sunday, May 12, you will be charged for a minimum of seven (7) nights of housing at the Summer Housing rate.
Forwarding Your Mail
- If you do not reside at Daniels Hall for the summer term, we will not hold your mail.
- Update your mailing address so staff can forward your mail. Please update your forwarding address online before you check out.
- Only first-class mail will be forwarded to your new address.
- Packages received after your departure will not be held and will not be forwarded. Packages will be immediately returned to the sender.
- To expedite delivery of your mail, notify your bank, friends, magazine companies, movie/music clubs, etc. of your new address.
How to Vacate Your Room
- Remove all personal belongings from the room and bath, empty the waste basket, remove posters, tape residue, stickers, nails, hooks, etc. to avoid charges for cleaning and maintenance.
- Clean and defrost the Combo Appliance, and leave the unit plugged in and turned on.
- Close and lock windows, turn off lights and lock the room door.
Checking Out of the Hall & Returning Room Key
After removing belongings from your room, follow the self-checkout instructions located in the main lobby and return your room key in the envelope provided in the key drop slot. Failure to do so will result in a key lock change and other charges.
Carts
Moving carts are available in the lobby on a first-come, first-served basis. Please be considerate of other residents and limit the use of a cart to 30 minutes or during the time you are actually moving.
Personal Property and Storage
There is no summer storage at Daniels. All personal property left in resident rooms or in the building will be considered abandoned and disposed of in the trash as stated in the Housing contract.
Bathroom Cleaning
Due to final exams and summer move-in, regular resident bathroom cleaning by Housing staff will stop on Reading Day, Thursday, May 2, and will not resume until after Memorial Day, on Tuesday, May 28.
Meal Plan Information
Lunch on Friday, May 10, will be the last meal served in the dining halls for the Spring Semester.
Continuing Resident for Summer?
Unless you have a confirmed 12-month contract, which includes Summer 2024, you must apply online for Summer Housing. Summer Housing is available between May 12 and August 4.
If you are a continuing 12-month or summer resident, you do not check out at the desk or return your room key. Daniels will remain open over the summer, and you may come and go as you please. Carry your ID and room key at all times. For your security, please make sure your room door is locked and windows are closed before leaving. When air conditioning is on and windows are left open, condensation will form and water damage may occur. Make sure windows are closed before leaving.
Leaving for an Extended Period of Time
If you plan to leave for an extended period of time, please be sure to take the following steps:
- Disconnect all electrical appliances except the Combo Appliance.
- Empty wastebasket and return any borrowed items from the Daniels desk.
- Remove personal items from your bathroom for weekly bathroom cleaning.
- Close and lock windows, turn off all lights and lock your room door.
Mail Services
- There will be regular mail services during the summer. Mail will only be held for current summer residents. All other first-class mail will be forwarded.
- Packages will only be held for current summer and 12-month residents. All other packages will be immediately returned to the sender.
- Newspapers will be held for three days and then discarded.
Bathroom Cleaning & Pest Control
Due to final exams and summer move-in, regular resident bathroom cleaning by Housing staff will stop on Reading Day, Thursday, May 2, and will not resume until Tuesday, May 28. Staff may enter rooms for lights left on, open windows, etc. while conducting routine maintenance work. Violations will not be ignored. Rooms may be treated for pest control, and air-conditioning unit filters may be changed.

Sherman
Sherman Hall Closing Information 2024
Moving out of Sherman Hall

Sherman Hall is closed during the entire summer and is not available.
- If you need Summer Housing, you must apply online for Summer Housing at Daniels Hall.
- Summer Housing is available from May 12 – August 4.
- Summer Housing is based on a per-night stay. There is a minimum seven-night stay.
Sherman residents who sign up for Summer Housing may move to Daniels after 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 11. Summer Housing residents will receive an email confirmation with an assigned check-in time. Daniels Hall is located at 1010 West Green Street in Urbana.
