Important Dates and Deadlines for First-Time Applicants
We want to make sure you have all of the information you need to get your Housing Contract completed and submitted by the May 8 priority deadline to be eligible for the assignment processes.
» Between Admission and May 8
Step 1: Submit your housing contract. 48 hours after you accept your offer of admission to Illinois, You can visit our how to apply page to complete your contract. During this step, you will:
- Complete your Roommate Matching Profile. Search and confirm a roommate, if you choose.
- Indicate your interest to live in an LLC and submit the required essay.
- Indicate your interest to live in a special living option or if you have an assignment considerations request.
- Submit the $100 non-refundable application fee.
Students in need of medical or ADA accommodation must apply for services through the Division of Disability Resources & Educational Services (DRES) to request a DRES-issued Letter of Accommodation and submit to the contract portal by the May 8 priority deadline.
» Late May
Step 2: If you submit your contract by the May 8 priority deadline, you will be eligible to participate in the Self-Assignment process. You may be randomly assigned an entry time to select your room, roommate and meal plan.
If you do not submit your contract by the May 8 priority deadline, we will pick a room and roommate for you based on the available space and roommate matching. Initially, you will be assigned a meal plan, but will be able to change to your preferred meal plan option.
» End of June
For those who participated in the Self-Assignment process, room and roommate confirmation emails will be sent out to your Illinois email address.
» July - August
After the Self-Assignment process, all unassigned contracts will be processed for assignment on a rolling basis. Multiple factors will be considered, such as date of completion, living-learning community interest, assignment consideration request and/or space availability. A room freeze will be in place as assignments are made. Newly completed contracts will then be assigned as spaces become available, including temporary housing, if applicable.
Housing assignment emails will continue to be sent out on a rolling basis every Friday of July, beginning July 10.
The Housing Information Office will facilitate a room swap process from July 6 - August 11.
