Temporary Housing
If you’ve been assigned to temporary housing, you’ll often be placed in an extra-large room, which can comfortably accommodate three or four students, depending on the residence hall. You’ll also be charged a reduced rate while living in temporary housing.
What Your Room Includes
These rooms are equipped with an extra-long twin bed, study space and your own closet or wardrobe that locks. You will receive an individual key for room entry.
Reduced Room Rate
Your room rate will be reduced by 50% while you live in temporary housing. (Your meal plan remains at the full rate.)
Permanent Assignments
University Housing will be in touch via your Illinois email during the semester to let you know when a permanent room becomes available. You will be charged the full, standard room rate only for the portion of the year that you live in a permanent space, with the prorated room rate beginning when you move into your permanent housing assignment.
If your permanent assignment is in another part of campus, University Housing will help you move.
Room Configuration
See our photos below for examples of how temporary rooms are set up. Please keep in mind that your actual space may appear a little different depending on the hall, furniture type and number of students in the room. During your stay in temporary housing, you are encouraged to decorate and personalize your room.
The Student Experience
Students living in temporary housing consistently report having positive experiences during their temporary assignments and return to live in residence halls for one or more additional years at a higher percentage than their peers.
Private Certified Housing
If you do not wish to stay in temporary housing, you may want to consider contracting with Private Certified Housing. Beginning July 1, 2024, a reciprocal application is required to do so.
