University Housing is committed to isolating residents as quickly as possible, and may contact you to help expedite the isolation process.

If you test positive for COVID-19:

• Students who test positive for COVID-19 at the official campus testing center will be required to isolate for a minimum of 5 days from the onset of symptoms or the date of the positive test, whichever comes first.
• The campus has limited resources for isolation space. Any individual who can safely travel to their permanent address to isolate will be asked to do so. ‘Safely travel’ means transportation in a private vehicle; public transportation should not be taken.
• For residents who are unable to return to their permanent address to isolate, University Housing will coordinate a place for you to isolate whiles supplies last.
• Residents who begin experiencing symptoms when the testing center is closed are asked to self-quarantine in their room, with a mask, until they can test at the next earliest testing center availability.
• If a student begins experiencing symptoms when a testing center is closed or experiences a delay in receiving test results, they may not spend an entire 5 days in a University Housing isolation space. Isolation requirements expire within a minimum of 5 days from the onset of symptoms or the positive test result if symptoms are no longer present.

Testing Positive for COVID-19 Monday-Friday:

Students can isolate within University Housing if unable to isolate safely at their permanent residence. To be eligible for isolation space, residents must have a positive COVID-19 test administered by on campus testing. University Housing staff will directly contact residents who have tested positive.

Testing Positive for COVID-19 on the Weekend:

Residents who receive a positive COVID-19 test are encouraged to isolate at their permanent off-campus residence if they can do so safely. Beginning Friday, September 2, isolation protocols will be available between 5 p.m. on Friday and 5 p.m. on Sunday. Residents who test positive via at home tests will be eligible for isolation space. Isolation space can be requested by emailing proof of a positive test to reshalls@housing.illinois.edu.

If you have been around an individual who tested positive for COVID-19:

• In accordance with CDC guidance, University Housing is not conducting contact tracing nor providing designated quarantine space for residents who may have been exposed to Covid-19. Roommates who have concerns are encouraged to get tested and wear a mask in their room.

Important notes:

• Isolation as directed by University Housing or CUPHD is mandatory. If you choose not to follow this guidance, you could be subject to student discipline.
• University Housing will offer the following isolation service:
  • Daily meals, taking into consideration dietary needs and restrictions.
  • Clean linens as needed at the request of a resident. 
  • Access to McKinley Health Center’s Dial-a-Nurse program.
• It is your responsibility to email your instructors and let them know when you will be absent from class. You do not need to share any specific health information with them. If you are in remote courses, you may continue to attend class online if you are able.

Checking out of isolation or quarantine: 

• In accordance with CDC guidance, University Housing is not conducting contact tracing nor providing designated quarantine space for residents who may have been exposed to Covid-19. Roommates who have concerns are encouraged to get tested and wear a mask in their room.

Reminder, you may not leave isolation until you are notified by University Housing to do so, even if you test negative. Please follow these check-out procedures: 

• After you are cleared by University Housing to check out, email reshalls@housing.illinois.edu with your intent to check out.
• Pack personal belongings. 
• Dispose of all trash, Kleenex, etc., in the trash can, tie trash bag, and leave by the door.
• Remove bed linens, place in the large plastic bag provided, tie bag, and leave next to the bed.
• Take any food, dishes, or utensils home with you or dispose of them in the trash.
• Lock the room door and return keys to the mail box located in the same location you received the keys.
• If you live in another part of campus you may want to call a friend, Uber/Lyft, or taxi to help you move back to your room. University Housing staff may not transport students.

University Apartments: 

University Housing is committed to isolating residents as quickly as possible to help expedite the isolation process.

If you test positive for COVID-19:

• Students who test positive for COVID-19 at the official campus testing center will be required to isolate for 5 days from the onset of symptoms or the date of the positive test, whichever comes first.
• Apartment residents will complete isolation in their apartment.
• Residents who are experiencing symptoms will begin to isolate in their apartment and get tested at a testing center the next time it is open.
• Isolation requirements expire 5 days from the onset of symptoms or the positive test result.
• Notify to Family & Graduate Housing office at apartments@illinois.edu if anyone living in the apartment tests positive for COVID-19.
• As all apartments include a kitchen, you are responsible for your meals.
