Winter Break Housing Information

Do you need to stay on campus over winter break? We have some housing options available for you! Remember to make your reservation in advance, as space is limited.

University Housing's undergraduate residence halls close on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 3 p.m. and open Sunday, January 13, 2019 at 9 a.m. Winter break accommodations are available from December 22–January 9.

Residents who need to stay in University Housing between January 9 at noon and January 13 at 9 a.m. can move into their permanent assignments for Early Arrival. There is an additional charge of $40 per night because these dates are outside of the Spring Housing Contract.

RESERVATIONS REQUIRED

Complete a Winter Break Housing Contract now

The deadline to complete a winter break housing contract is December 21 at 10:30 a.m. If you are interested in signing up for University break housing, complete the Winter Break Housing Contract form online. There are a limited number of spaces available on a first-come, first-served basis.

After the deadline, break housing will be only provided if any spaces remain or become available due to cancellations. Contact the PAR front desk at (217) 333-2950 for space availability.

Any student without a Break Housing Contract who accesses a building during a break period will be assessed the full break housing charge amount. In addition, any student who accesses a hall without a Break Housing Contract will be referred to either the Residential Life judicial process or to the University Police for trespassing.

ROOM COST

The rate is $40 per night. The non-refundable charge will be billed to your student account unless the reservation is canceled by 11:59 p.m. on December 20. To cancel, log back into the Break Housing Contract and click on the link to cancel the contract.

  • To change/decrease the number of days staying over break, changes need to be completed by 11:59 p.m. Thursday, December 20.
  • To add days before the deadline, please log into the Break Housing Contract and make the necessary adjustments.
  • To add days after the deadline, please email housing@illinois.edu with your request.

NOTE: There is no additional charge for winter break housing for Global Crossroads LLC residents. You must still complete a Break Housing Contract.

ROOM LOCATIONS

Residents requesting break housing will be housed in a limited number of converted lounge spaces in Pennsylvania Avenue Residence Halls (PAR). Each lounge will have a bed for each break resident (4 students will be assigned to each lounge). Bunked beds are provided. Students who request to stay one or two nights will be assigned to a lounge in PAR.

Current residents of PAR will be permitted to remain in their own rooms during the break; however, current residents must still submit a Break Housing Contract.

If you need ADA special accommodations, please indicate that on your Break Housing Contract and contact the Housing Information Office.

MEALS

A meal plan is not offered during winter break.

CHECK-IN AND CHECK-OUT

Check-in at PAR will start at 9 a.m. on December 22.

On all other days, you may check-in between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. at the front desk.

Please check out and remove all things from your assigned break room by 10 a.m. on the day you plan to depart. No storage of personal items is permitted in break rooms after your contract has ended.
