Residence Halls

Move-In Week

Our typical Move-In Week schedule and process have been modified to protect the health and safety of our residents, families and staff.

Dates and Times:

Early Arrival: August 15; 10 a.m.-3 p.m. & August 16-17; 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
Living-Learning Community: Official Move-In Days August 16-17; 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
First-Year Students: Official Move-In Days August 18-19; 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
Returning Students: Official Move-In Day August 20; 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
Additional Weekend Days: August 21-22; 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Early Drop Off (Optional)

Consider taking advantage of our Early Drop Off option. August 4-6, by appointment only, residents may deliver personal belongings to their room prior to Move-In Week. Residents who choose this option will not be allowed to check-in or live in their room, but they can get a head start on Move-In. There is a one time fee of $40 for this service that will be added to your student account.

Early Drop Off form coming soon.

Move-In Reservations:

To provide a socially distant and efficient Move-In experience, residents moving in this fall are required to select a Move-In Week time slot between August 15-22. During these time slots, residents will be allowed to check-in, unload and transport items to their room.

First-year residents are encouraged to select a Move-In Week time slot on or before August 19 so that they may participate in Welcome Week events. Returning residents are encouraged to select a Move-In Week time slot between August 20-22.

Move-in Time Slot form coming soon.

If you will be unable to arrive by the first day of classes on August 23, please notify the Housing Information Office by email at housing@illinois.edu of when you intend to check in. If you arrive after August 23 without notifying the Housing Information Office, your assignment may change. Failure to claim your room assignment does not automatically cancel your contract.

Move-In Instructions

Move-In Instructions will differ from day to day. Be sure to follow the instructions planned for your Move-In date.

Move-In Safety Guidelines

As you move in, the following safety guidelines must be followed:

  • Face coverings that cover the mouth and nose must be worn (unless for medical purposes) unless fully vaccinated for over 14 days.
  • Hand sanitizer, cleaning supplies, and moving carts will be available, but you are encouraged to also bring your own.
  • If you, or one of the individuals helping you move, begins to experience symptoms consistent with COVID-19, please do not come to campus.

Parking on campus is very limited. Upon your arrival, you may unload your vehicle from a curb or metered space nearest your residence hall (do not leave your car unattended while unloading). For longer term visitor parking that same day you must contact Campus Parking. Meters and lots are enforced by Campus Parking during Move-In. University Housing is not responsible for parking tickets you may receive.
