Setting up email

Set up a separate email account to receive all of your University-related email or choose to forward it to an already existing email account. This page will also explain the different type of email account for graduate students.

Setting Up Email Account

Go to Technology Services webpage and follow the instructions under the heading "Creating a Google Apps @ Illinois account". If you would like to have your email forwarded to another account then you can choose the option that says "Another email account that I already have:" in step number 7, or you could follow the instructions in the next section. Technology Services webpage also has instructions on how to log in to your Google Apps account so make sure to read the instructions carefully. 

Accessing Your Student Email Account on a Mobile Device

You may access your student email account through your internet browser on your smartphone but there are times when that is inconvenient. The other method is using an email client to access your email. You could use either the Gmail app or the default Email application on your smartphone. See an explanation of the instructions and details needed to use this setup.

Forwarding Your Email to an Existing Email Account

If you would like to have your campus email forwarded to another email account you can use the Electronic Directory Editor to change where your email is going to. Go to the Electronic Directory Editor and sign in with your NetID and your Active Directory (AD) password. Once you've logged in, go to the "mail" section and enter the email address that you want your email sent to. 

Note: If you are trying to forward your email to your Google Apps @ Illinois account you must enter

Email Accounts For Graduate Students 

Graduate students do have a Google Apps account connected with the University, but they are also provided with an Exchange email accounts as their primary account.
