Classes operate during the academic year while the University is in session, following the University of Illinois Academic calendar. We plan thoughtful activities for children to develop social, emotional and physical skills, gain independence, practice critical thinking and improve listening. We focus on building self-esteem, confidence, and a love of learning in everything we do. Our curriculum is built around a weekly theme and includes self-paced experiences in art, music, literature, math and science. We fully prepare children to ease into their next level of education in U.S. or global schools.
The foundation of our programming is based on the diverse blend of social and cultural backgrounds that make up our apartment communities. We use culturally-based resources and curriculum to help educate and bridge differences. Reading and language centers have a special forces on English as a Second Language (ESL) skills.
We are a small school which enables us to be both teacher and child directed. Teachers and staff deliver personalized instruction to your child to meet their individual needs. The Full-day and Half-day class size is 15 to 18 children with 2 teachers. We also have student workers and volunteers in our classrooms throughout the year.
To register your child, call (217) 333-3497 or contact Family & Graduate Housing at (217) 333-5656. All registration and health forms must be completed before children may attend. The application may also be submitted in person to the Family & Graduate Housing office or to the Preschool directly. There is a non-refundable $50 registration fee due at the time of application submission. This fee reserves a space for your child.

Kids’ Club AfterSchool Program
Kids' Club is an after-school program for Orchard Downs residents. Serving children ages five to ten years old. Kids’ Club meets Monday to Friday at 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Orchard Dows Community Center. Children participate in a variety of activities offering social, recreational, and educational opportunities. Some of the activities include arts and crafts, games, sports, outdoor play, and cooking. A monthly calendar details the daily activities including guest speakers, and special cultural celebrations. A highlight of the after school program is the America Reads Tutoring program, which gives children the opportunity to meet with tutors for homework assistance. Information about Kids’ Club is advertised in the Orchard Downs newsletter, the Neighborly News.
