Resources for Conference Guests

Area Desk Services

Each area desk is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Contact the area desk staff if you have any questions about the building or campus in general.

Wireless Access

All conference space include free public Wi-Fi access. To access the Illinois Guest Internet, follow these steps (process is the same for laptops and mobile devices):

  • Select IllinoisNet_Guest as the network to connect to.
  • Close all previously opened pages on web browser and then open a new browser window.
  • A tab will open to an Illinois Welcome Page log in. At the bottom of the page, click Register a guest account from the menu on the left. 
  • Provide relevant information (name, phone number, email address). 
  • Click Register.

Lost and Found Items

If you should lose something during your stay or you have noticed that you left something behind after returning home, call the Office of Conferences & Special Events at (217) 333-1766.

Air Conditioning

In order for the air conditioning in the building to work properly, please keep all windows closed. The air conditioning may be adjusted in each room. However, if windows are left open, humidity and heat will set off the fire alarms in the building.

Fire Safety

If the fire alarm sounds, exit the building immediately and stand across the street from the building. Area desk staff will notify you when it is safe to re-enter.

Severe Weather Policies

Signs will be posted in the halls if there is a tornado watch. In the case of a tornado warning, sirens will sound and the area desk staff will request that you go to the basement of the building for your safety. The area desk staff has weather radios and means of communication with other halls and will notify you when it is safe to leave the basement area.

In the case of fire or inclement weather, do not use the elevators.

Linen Service

If your conference provides linen service, you will be provided with a pillow, pillow case, fitted and flat sheet, and wool blanket. A towel and washcloth are provided and daily towel exchange is available at the area desk. The area desk also has additional blankets and pillows available.

Laundry Facilities

All washing machines and dryers are complimentary to our guests. Contact the area desk for the location of the laundry room.

On-Campus ATM Services

ATMs are located across campus. There is an ATM in the lobby of the Florida Avenue Residence Halls (FAR) in Urbana, the Student Dining and Residential Programs Building (SDRP) in Champaign, and there are many ATMs in the Illini Union on the Main Quad. For directions to any of these machines, contact the area desk.

Mail Service

If a letter or package needs to be mailed, there is a U.S. Post Office on Green Street in Champaign. If mail needs to be sent to a participant, contact the Office of Conferences & Special Events for the appropriate mailing address for the assigned hall. Allow time for shipping. Once we receive the mail, we will post a note on the participant’s door and they may pick up the item from the area desk. All mail will be returned if it is not received by the end of the conference.

Lost Keys

If you have lost your room key, you can obtain a duplicate set at the area desk. There is a $50 charge for all lock changes. Check and credit card payments are accepted for lock changes.

If you are locked out of your room, contact the area desk. A staff member on duty will be able to let you back into your room within thirty minutes. There is no charge for lock-outs.

Quiet Hours

All residence halls have closely monitored quiet hours between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. University Housing requests that guests respect each other by maintaining a quiet and peaceful environment.

Check-Out

Turn off the lights and leave any University provided linens in the room, lock the door, and return the room key to the area desk. Check your room before you leave to ensure that personal belongings are not left in the closets or drawers.
