Opportunities to Get Involved
Innovation residents have the opportunity to participate in a number of programs throughout the year, including guest speakers, competitions, and events.
Extreme Entrepreneurial Lock-In
Four teams. Twenty-four hours. One big challenge. At the Extreme Entrepreneurial Lock-in, teams of Innovation students are introduced to a large real-world challenge. They are given space, food, mentors, and about 24 hours to come up with a business or product that addresses some aspect of the larger challenge. The teams then present their ideas to a panel of judges and a winner is chosen to be commemorated on a plaque in the Innovation Garage. All teams who desire additional support to continue working on their ideas after the lock-in are connected with support and resources on campus, and several teams have gone on to develop their ideas into viable entries in the campus-wide Cozad New Venture Competition.
Students from the on-site TE 200: Introduction to Innovation class spend a semester formulating ideas and businesses. Taking all that they have learned from the class, they create trade-show style presentations and attempt to convince the crowd that they have the best idea. At the end of the event, votes from the crowd are tallied and a winner is crowned.
How I Failed…
Entrepreneurs from diverse fields come to the Innovation garage to share their stories with a focus on the mistakes they made along the way and how they learned from them to become the great successes that they are today. Students are given the chance for Q & A in a relaxed and intimate setting so that they can learn from the greats.
Women in Innovation
Designed for the women in our community (though men are always welcome), Women of Innovation introduces our students to successful women in innovation, entrepreneurship, and leadership so that they may learn more about what it takes to be a successful professional woman, particularly in male-dominated fields. This program seeks to inspire both male and female students to proactively bridge the gender gap.
3D Printing Lab
The 3D printing lab provides the residents of Innovation with exclusive access to 3D printers and free printing. It is a resource that allows our residents to rapidly prototype and begin testing out their ideas.
