2016-2017 Health Professions Programs

In addition to the programs listed below, there are three other Living-Learning Communities in the HP area. Global Crossroads, Intersections, and Women in Math, Science, and Engineering also offer many programs and events that you as an HP student are invited to attend. The majority of Housing programs are open to all residents.

Annual Trip

Saturday, September 17-Sunday, September 18

This popular weekend trip is covered by the HP programming fee and is free to HP residents. This fall HP will visit Indianapolis to get an inside view of medical sciences professional and graduate programs at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, a tour of Ely Lilly and Company, a major pharmaceutical manufacturer, visit the Indianapolis Zoo, and take in a theater performance.

The Beckman Connection

Go on a special tour and attend a reception at the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology. Learn about the incredible research going on at Beckman, meet the faculty, staff, and students involved, and find out how you can you can get into research! Tours/receptions happen three times a year.

Dinner and Conversation with Professors

Faculty members trek over to the residence halls to join us for dinner and informal conversation in the Florida Avenue Residence Halls Library. Their advice is eye-opening, their stories unique, and their research inspiring.

"Unnatural Causes"

This documentary series looks at causes of socioeconomic and racial inequities in health. The episodes cover different areas of the country to examine the social circumstances beyond habits, health care, and genes that affect our health. Discussions led by HP staff help students reflect on their role as future health care providers, the contexts in which they will work, and how they can approach such social problems.

HP offers workshops on a variety of topics related to your success as a pre-health professional student, from writing resumes as a pre-health professional to learning how to job shadow, from finding out how to get involved in research to learning what medical and graduate schools look for in applicants.

Researchers Initiative

The RI is open to any student in HP, Global Crossroads, Intersections, and WIMSE. See the Researchers Initiative page for more information.

Volunteering

HP Peer Leaders plan and facilitate volunteer experiences for HP residents. Past opportunities have included volunteering at a nursing home, making blankets for the crisis nursery, or helping out at a food bank.
